Rangoon (Yangon) General Hospital Incident
   (August 10, 1988)
   After the hospital staff hung signs in front of the colonial-era building calling for an end to Tatmadaw shooting of demonstrators, army units fired into the hospital compound with automatic weapons, killing and wounding nurses and some bystanders. The incident was one of the most important in turning the general population of Rangoon (Yangon) against the military.
